Dr Ivana Damjanovic is a Senior Lecturer at the Canberra Law School. Her research is interdisciplinary, encompassing issues of law and politics in the field of international investment and trade, with particular focus on the European Union. Ivana's book "The European Union and International Investment Law Reform: Between Aspirations and Reality" was published by Cambridge University Press in 2023.

Ivana has qualified as a lawyer in Australia and Europe (Croatia) and has expertise in international law and international relations. She has taught law and guest lectured at universities in Australia, Asia and Europe. Ivana has provided training to Australian government and industry stakeholders on trade and investment law and policy of the European Union, and presented her research at conferences in Australia, Europe, Asia and the US. Ivana's professional background encompasses nine years as a career diplomat for Croatia with diplomatic postings in Europe and Australia, work as trade advisor for the Delegation of the European Union to Australia and research and policy roles for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Croatia.

Ivana Damjanovic graduated her PhD at the ANU Centre for European Studies in November 2020. Her thesis topic is Investor-State Dispute Settlement and the European Union: Challenges of the Relationship between EU Law, EU Public Policy and International Investment Arbitration. Her thesis supervisory panel includes: Panel Chair: Dr Annmarie Elijah Supervisor: Ms Anne McNaughton Supervisor: Prof Murray Raff. Her research is interdisciplinary, encompassing issues of law and politics in the area of investor-State dispute settlement (ISDS) within the context of the European Union (EU). 

Ivana’s research interests include international private and public law, EU law and politics, humanitarian law, comparative law, effective legal and justice systems, and trade policy.
